Hello everyone!!! We are going to tell you a little about our history and how we left our attributions and the rush of the country's capital to come live and work with permaculture in Chapada dos Veadeiros.
In 2012, me (Fabiano) and my partner (Mari) were at the beginning of our relationship. We had several common dreams of quitting that rush of Brasília. The cost of living was high, traffic was increasing with each passing day, and the quality of life (which had always been Brasília's strong point) was getting worse and worse. Brasília is a relatively new city, but the population increase was fast and disorganized.
In the midst of this confusion of a developing metropolis, we met some people who were buying land in Alto Paraíso in Chapada dos Veadeiros to form a permacultural community. We quickly joined them and secured a place that in the future would be our home. But the future came faster than we imagined. With the birth of our son Bento in early 2013, we decided to put our plan into practice quickly, so that our son could grow up in a quieter place with a better quality of life.
I'm a communicator and Mari Yoga Instructor, in addition, too we produced the AuriGhi clarified butter that we sell at the local producer's fair in Alto Paraíso until today. (enter our Bioshop and discover our products) . It wasn't difficult to get a job in the region, I started to work teaching by Pronatec (federal program of technical training) in several cities in the region and in the quilombola communities of Kalunga scattered around Teresina de Goiás and Cavalcante. Mari quickly started teaching yoga in the city and so we were able to rent a house in Alto Paraíso and began to carry out our plans for the bio-construction of our house.
Even at the beginning, there were difficulties that, in theory, we could not imagine, but in practice... The Pronatec Program, where I was teaching, ended and we were left with no way to pay the rent on our house. My partner, my son and I went to live in a tent we set up on the land where we were building our house and after the roof was finished, we moved the tent indoors even without the walls ready. We still had to face the extremes of weather, those who live in the Cerrado know how drought and rain are punishing, we face physical fatigue, lack of money, loans, we face the difficulty of raising a child in these conditions. But we also had indispensable support from our friends in Brasilia and the community. Sometimes we even had help from strangers who became great friends.
Today, our house has grown!! We made a comfortable bathroom with black water division (BET) and ash (circle of banana trees), we built a large and well equipped kitchen for the production of Ghi butter, a gazebo to enjoy the most beautiful sunset in Chapada, the finish is perfect (thanks to Mari). There is still a lot to do in the house, in fact it seems that work is eternal, but we are already entering a new stage and we are going to dedicate ourselves to the sustainability and food and energy independence of Espaço Ajna.
The difficulties are not over. To reach our goals we still need financial investments and time. The community still suffers from problems of lack of water and we need several measures to reach the point of having abundance in our plantations. To alleviate the lack of water, we built a fish tank in one of the holes where we removed the earth to make the house, but there is still little water to sustain a planting in a long dry period. The goal now is to build a larger and closed tank, so that we will be able to avoid evaporation and guarantee the irrigation of our future agroforestry.
This has always been our secret!!! The persistence and unity did not let the difficulties stop us, on the contrary, the excitement of seeing the project taking its steps every day, far outweighs the discouragement that difficulties bring us.
